What are Discoid Roaches?

Discoid roaches (Blaberus discoidalis) They are Florida Legal so that we may use them to feed are reptiles. Click on the link to learn more about them.

How do I house them?

You can use a tote of a decent size, put some egg crates inside to give them a place to hide, make sure and include a food source, water source such as water crystals and a heat source. have a lid on the tote as well with a screen area on top to allow for air.

What Roach Chow do I feed them?

You can use a homemade chow recipe, many recipes are found online. You can feed them veggies such as Collard Greens, Mustard Greens, Turnip Greens, Carrots, etc... One thing to always pay attention to is do NOT feed the Discoids anything that your REPTILE cannot have. also using a water crystal is helpful so they get some water. Make sure and wash all veggies really good before feeding them to your Discoids.

What about washing the food prior to feeding the Discoids?

It is always a great practice to wash all food before allowing your Discoids to eat it. There is way to many pesticides and chemicals that might get sprayed on them prior to you getting them.

What are the best TEMPS to keep them at?

They do best when in TEMPS in the high 80's to low 90's.

What about HUMIDITY?

Humidity should be kept between 45 and 50 degrees for best overall health of your DISCOIDS.

Are ORANGES safe to feed to my Discoids?

Oranges are used as a aphrodisiac to entice breeding. If you use Oranges in your setup you have to remember to allow about 2 weeks separation from the oranges before you can feed them off to some reptiles if not all.

How long does it take to sexually mature?

On average between 4-6 months but it will also depend on your care of them if the heat, food, water, humidity, etc is all correct.

How many BABIES can each female have per month?

On average they can have around 35 BABIES every 30-45 days but again it depends on your setup and if everything is correct.

The adults have WINGS can they climb or fly?

No they cannot fly even though they have wings. Yes they can climb on somethings but cannot climb on slippery surfaces, smooth surfaces, etc...

How do you tell Males and Females apart?

Males are usually smaller than the females. Their wings will usually go past their body while females are bigger than Males and wings do not go to the end of their body. If you look on the under side of them the Females bottom section will be much bigger than that of a Male.

Is the FRAZ (ROACH POOP) good to leave in the tote?

Short answer is yes if you are breeding as the BABIES (NYMPH'S) will eat this to survive. This is where they get most of what they need starting out in life.
